November 2012 - Laura Earlam
I started doing the Access to Nursing course when I realised I could not apply for the degree course (Nursing Learning Disabilities) with out doing an access course. I came across DistanceLearningCentre.com online and thought it was perfect, not only could I continue working online but I could also work at my own times and my own pace from home. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and realised I was more academic and punctual than I thought. Also, it has given me confidence for when I start at university.
The tutors were great and supportive with guidance and any information you might need supplied very quickly. I was offered a place by my chosen university and will be starting very soon. Thanks DistanceLearningCentre.com for making my dream a reality.
Fab5 Award Winner 2014 - Sharon Worgan
After making the decision in September 2013 that I needed a change of career, I came across DistanceLearningCentre.com and their excellent range of access courses. I chose to do Access to Health as completing it would give me sufficient qualifications to apply for the nursing degree course I wanted to do.
Now don't start applying thinking this will be a breeze. You need to be self motivated, and disciplined. You have to make time to studying and complete the coursework which isn't easy if you have a family and work full time, but it is achievable. I have four young children and a full time job yet managed to complete the course before the June moderation and achieved 45 level 3 credits at distinction! The tutors are fantastic and on hand to answer any queries about the course work which is really useful when you're taking on a subject that is out of your comfort zone.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending DistanceLearningCentre.com, completing this course feels like a massive achievement and has boosted my confidence so much. I was so scared I was too old to learn new things when I first started the course but now I ready to start University next March to do a degree in adult nursing and I can't wait.
Put in the work, listen to your tutors and you'll not regret a thing ? Follow your dreams. (Jun 14)
Jan 2017 update: - Sharon is starting her third year of a nursing degree and is "having the most amazing time at university".
She recently spent time on an international placement in Rwanda where she was one of three students who went out to do research on infection rates, 'information share' in the local polytechnic and develop a sepsis screening tool based on the QSOFA theory for use in the hospital. Their work was well received and the hospital now uses the tool on many of their wards with a possibility of them using the tool in 12 local health centres.
After a placement in Rwanda this summer, she has her heart set on a career in A&E and maybe going on to do her advanced practitioner course.
It was flexible around working full time and three children - Claire Mathews
Fab5 Award Nominee
I studied the access to midwifery course with DistanceLearningCentre.com. I left school without many qualifications as I struggled with dyslexia and had no direction (the joys of being 16 ;)). After having my kids at a young age I knew I wanted to be a midwife and thought I wouldn't be able to. I needed to work full time work and had never been a great student. I came to DistanceLearningCentre.com as it was flexible around working full time and three children.
I was concerned about not being able to keep up with the work load and not having the face to face tutoring as found in colleges. However once I started I realised the great support offered by my tutors and the clear expectations for the assessments. There were days I struggled feeling I couldn't achieve my goal and many late nights studying. The tutors were supportive, encouraging giving clear and constructive feedback so I achieved my goals. I completed my access course with a distinction profile I required for the midwifery course of my first choice university offer.
Alongside all the knowledge gained from my access course module DistanceLearningCentre.com has provided me with vital study skills I have needed for university from essay writing, accessing up to date research, independent learning and time management skills.
I am now half way through my midwifery qualification and the foundations I built with DistanceLearningCentre.com have made it possible to pass my first year with over 70% grade. So thank you for the amazing opportunity that I never dreamt possible. (Jun 14)
I have now finished and passed my Social Work Degree and secured a job - Mark Watson
I was a DistanceLearningCentre.com Access to HE Social Work student who started my BA Hons Social Work degree in September 2011.
I have now finished and passed my Social Work Degree with a 2:1 and have secured a job as an Offender Manager for probation services which I start in September!
Crikey, I thought writing assignments for the Access course was hard enough! I could not have envisaged or anticipated how hard the degree course would be, but although challenging, I found it extremely regarding and enjoyable and want to thank you again for your support on the access course!
When studying with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I almost didn't finish the Access course in time, but DistanceLearningCentre.com gave me the chance to finish! Thanks again! Hope you are all keeping well! (Jun 14)
The additional help with my UCAS form and personal statement was an extra bonus - Melissa Cohen
Fab 5 Award Nominee
My experience with DistanceLearningCentre.com was fantastic! I was able to work when I was able to, which was essential with having two young daughters and almost working full time shifts and with my husband working shifts also.
I had two amazing tutors who boosted my confidence and made me realise that I could complete the course with the grades needed to start my Midwifery training. I found the assessments very interesting and although hard, I felt such an achievement when I sent it through. DistanceLearningCentre.com have excellent guidance with each assessment to ensure you are on the right track, which for me, were invaluable along with my tutor's support.
The additional help with my UCAS form and personal statement was an extra bonus and the glowing academic reference from my tutor was something I was not expecting, this extra help assisted me immensely with me gaining my place on the degree. (Jun 14)
