My name is Aleesha, and I started the Access to Health and Social Care (option 3) course in September 2024 with DistanceLearningCentre.com. I had gained my GCSEs previously, however, I had no A levels, so DistanceLearningCentre.com gave me the opportunity to gain a level 3 qualification to follow my dreams of studying Social Work at university. My ambition when I started the course was to finish my level 3 qualification, so I can study Social Work at university. My tutors at DistanceLearningCentre.com were really helpful and gave me the right support I needed to get through this course and reach my full potential. The course taught me important skills such as independence and time management, which will be helpful for my future career.

My studies with the Distance Learning Centre have been one of the most impactful experiences of my career. I enrolled on the course as part of the branch transfer process from Leading Medical Assistant to Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) within the Royal Navy medical branch. This was to meet the education requirements of the transfer and this course provided the knowledge and reintroduction to education I needed to succeed.
The content was engaging, clearly structured, and gave me a much deeper understanding of anatomy, physiology, and pharmaceuticals, and I have been able to apply this knowledge directly to my clinical practice. I can instruct my trainees with greater confidence in a way that links human physiology to patient care, such as explaining the regulation of insulin in diabetes mellitus, or interpreting urinalysis through my understanding of kidney filtration and blood transport. These insights improve the standard of care we deliver as a team.
During my ODP interview board I was able to present on tranexamic acid, explaining its chemical structure, mechanism of action, and role in stabilising blood clots on the battlefield as well as in the operating theatre. This level of understanding and skill in research has strengthened how I communicate complex issues with the whole multidisciplinary team I work with.
Balancing academic study with the demands of full-time military service, as well as representing the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in competitive luge was not without its challenges. However, the flexibility and support provided throughout the course made it possible to study on the fly and take any necessary study breaks I needed to keep up with my commitments. Having been deployed to 5 countries over the duration of the course proves the connection to learning materials and tutors is completely reliable.
Overall, this course has improved my academic skills and professional confidence, and prepared me for the next stage of my career. I would recommend it without hesitation to anyone and have encouraged a colleague to start their access course so they can accomplish their goal of going to university to study chemistry next year.

At 33, with two young daughters and not a lot of formal qualifications, the idea of returning to education was, well, it was more than intimidating... My journey with DistanceLearningCentre.com began around 2 years before I actually started the course.
I have always been a confident person, but as I learnt, life can be unpredictable; things can fall apart easily, and then you are just left anxiously fighting for existence only. So in those 2 years, struggling with my mental health, losing a job and looking after my autistic son, I kept going back to the website trying to work up the courage to apply. Eighteen years out of education, and English as my second language did not help either. Nevertheless, I applied, and truthfully, it was not easy at all, and it took me much longer than I originally planned, but I managed to complete my Access to Higher Education Diploma with most distinctions.
This would not have happened without the guidance, support, encouragement and understanding from my amazing tutors.
There were moments where I really struggled with time and motivation; however, each email from my tutor provided reassurance and great advice, so I would like to use this opportunity to say, 'Thank you for believing in me and supporting me,' which, despite all of my difficulties, allowed me to complete my course successfully.
Due to my personal circumstances, completing the course online was the only way I could progress with my education.
DistanceLearningCentre.com did not disappoint. After familiarising myself with the Student’s Handbook, the website, YouTube videos and any additional links to a variety of resources, I felt well-equipped to carry on with my assignments. The learning materials were easy to follow, and I could study at any time, especially at night when I had the most time. The online library was also packed with resources relevant to each one of the units I studied. In addition, the Facebook group was very supportive and full of useful information, and I feel proud to be a part of the DistanceLearningCentre.com community.
As I already mentioned, it took me a little longer to complete my Access to HE Diploma, but this journey opened a new path that will continue now at Arden University, and it would not have happened without the support from DistanceLearningCentre.com, during which I also worked hard on my personal growth and gained back my confidence.

Following not successfully completing sixth form, leaving with no qualifications and working full-time, I thought my chance of A levels were gone.
However, through some research, I stumbled across DistanceLearningCentre.com. I signed up unaware of what exactly the course entailed. I’ve always struggled academically, always felt I’ve had to revise harder than the next person; information never seemed to stay in.
Although upon starting the course, I quickly discovered the tutors are very supportive and patient. This course had taken me longer than most, doing it alongside working a 65-70-hour week, but the tutors constantly offered support.
I will admit it has been difficult, but eventually I got there and now I have completed the course! However, this would not have been possible without the amazing tutors and resources provided by DistanceLearningCentre.com.
