I am still in shock that I managed to complete the diploma, but I’m very proud of myself at the same time - Charmaine Tooke
I started my Access to HE in nursing back in 2021, and to have completed it, this is something I will forever be proud of myself for, especially when at times I didn’t think I would, and there were times I felt like giving up. In the 4 years of completing it, I have faced many hurdles, especially in the 2nd half of my diploma, e.g mental health and my dad being diagnosed with cancer that will never go away sadly. However, I have been blessed with a beautiful baby boy who is now 9 months old. With the support from my tutor, she really helped me along the way to keep going; she was very understanding and helpful, and guided me when I was uncertain. I am still in shock that I managed to complete the diploma, but I’m very proud of myself at the same time. I won’t be going to university at this moment in time; however, I have got it there under my belt for when or if I do go to university to study to become a nurse. But for now, I am very happy being a Senior Care Assistant, and this diploma has been applicable to my job role.
You can have more than what you have, because you can become more than what you are!!! - Corey Smith
Before starting this course, I had no faith in my ability to finish the course, let alone get into university, because I left school with no GCSEs to my name. I had been a pharmacy dispenser for nearly 5 years, a job I had grown to despise and one in which advancement was impossible for me. I was tired of postponing and feeling unworthy of success. As a young father, caring for my children added to my worries about my ability to fulfil my goals. I evaluated my current situation and decided to take my own progression into my own hands, concluding that if I did not take the steps towards my goal of becoming more than what I was, I would live in regret for the rest of my life for not even attempting, and remain at a job where I had no joy in what I was doing, along with no opportunities for advancement. Nothing in this world scared me more than that.
DistanceLearningCentre.com provided me with everything I needed to attain my goal, including an Access course to Nursing comparable to three A levels, as well as Maths and English. Furthermore, I had no idea that DistanceLearningCentre.com would provide more than merely qualifications. From the beginning of the course, I learnt how to use punctuation, syntax, and paragraph structure to effectively write essays and reports, preparing me for university success. Furthermore, the developmental units helped me produce an excellent personal statement.
After successfully completing this course, my tutor wrote a glowing reference for me. I received distinctions in all graded courses, including English and Arithmetic, and was accepted to university for adult nursing. As a student nurse, I completed clinical placements on a stroke ward and a surgical rotation that included the surgical enhanced care unit, full elective, orthopaedic, and urology wards. I also improved my academic understanding by receiving first-class grades (74-81%) on all my assignments and tests in my first year. After my first year, I realised that I could be more than just a nurse, so I decided to pursue a master's degree in pharmacy to become a pharmacist. However, I fell short on chemistry. So I returned to the DistanceLearningCentre.com for a SECOND TIME because of the excellent education and tutoring that this college offers. I completed the Access to Medicine programme with distinctions in all of my assignments and exams, and with the assistance of the DistanceLearningCentre.com for the second time, I was able to gain admission to Liverpool John Moores University to study a Master's in Pharmacy, with the goal of becoming a pharmacist and opening my own pharmacy where I can work for my own dream rather than someone else's, and help the community. Overall, DistanceLearningCentre.com has helped me mature into a person I am proud of (an academic weapon!).
This course, along with tutor support, helped me succeed twice with the DistanceLearningCentre.com and shape who I am today, and will become in the future.
As I began studying with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I started to have something I hadn’t had in a long time: hope. - Issy Brignell
My journey with DistanceLearningCentre.com was everything I expected it to be and more. I started my Access course in Psychology and Counselling in September 2024, with the aim to finish the course by the end of May 2025.
As someone who acutely struggles with their mental health and had to drop out of earlier education because of this, I was unsure whether getting back into studying would be a good idea. I knew I needed something to give me a sense of purpose, but I was lacking confidence and motivation at the time. However, as soon as I began studying with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I started to have something I hadn’t had in a long time: hope.
One person who helped me feel that hope was my amazing tutor. She was so supportive and proactive, and got involved in my studies. This certainly helped me feel less alone and more comfortable to reach out for help and support. This was particularly helpful when I found myself in difficult circumstances.
In December, I was badly assaulted. I felt like I’d been knocked back to square one with my mental health. As a result of the assault, I had a bad mental health incident which landed me in hospital. I contemplated pausing the course but decided to persevere. And I’m so grateful I did persevere. The course continued to give me a sense of belonging and purpose. I truly believe this is what got me through this extremely difficult time.
With the help of my staff, including my tutor, at DistanceLearningCentre.com, I finished my course by the end of May 2025 with good grades and an offer to study Psychology BSc from my goal university too. But not only did DistanceLearningCentre.com educate me and help me obtain this offer, they also became a big part of my personal recovery journey. Looking back, I am proud of myself. Not only for the grades I have achieved, but also for the strength I have found in myself. For that, I will always be thankful for DistanceLearningCentre.com.
To anyone considering studying with DistanceLearningCentre.com, particularly those who are unsure or who struggle mentally, please go for it. You will not be disappointed! Not only will you be supported to grow academically, but also as a person. Remember, you really can do anything you put your mind to.
Don't doubt yourself. You could take a very significant step towards achieving your goals. - Joey McGirr
When I first decided to get back into education and enrol on the Access to Higher Education (Law) Diploma, I did not know what to expect. I was bracing myself for a struggle and hoped that I would be able to get through it. The actual experience could not have been further removed from that fear. Every step of the course was laid out clearly and helpfully. I felt secure in the knowledge that my tutor was only one quick message away if I ever needed anything explained. The resources and materials were all clear and well-explained. At no point did I ever feel out of my depth or lacking support.
I don't want to turn this into an account of my life, but I would like to briefly mention that I have completed this course after years of battling alcoholism and mental health issues. I say that to highlight to anyone who might be wondering if they can do it; if I can do it, you surely can. Don't doubt yourself. You could take a very significant step towards achieving your goals.
As for myself, I could not be more grateful. I have secured a place at Oxford University to read law, which is an opportunity that would have never presented itself without the decision to enrol with DistanceLearningCentre.com. There is no trace of hyperbole in the claim that this was the best decision I have ever made.
I am so very grateful for the support and positivity received from my tutors - Gwen Thomas
I decided to start the Access to Science course at a time when I was feeling discouraged and had thoughts about embarking on a different career path. My interest in science has always been present, but only at the back of my mind. I am so very thrilled to have completed the course and have learned more in detail about Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Despite difficult hardships this year, I am so very grateful for the support and positivity received from my tutors. Thank you again.
For others who are deciding whether to start an Access course with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I have found the college to be professional, helpful and friendly. The resources are organised, detailed and delivered well. My course was extremely thorough and well-instructed. My tutors have been easy to contact whenever I was struggling, with a guaranteed reply. Thank you. It has made studying flexible and convenient, but overall, it has made it enjoyable. Thank you for the opportunity and plenty of feedback along the way, which I hope to carry into the future.
