I started the Access to Nursing and Midwifery course with DistanceLearningCentre.com at the age of 17. I had just completed my GCSEs a year later than my peers, after missing a year of school due to hospitalisation for my health. I had been out of full-time education for the past 4 years and felt detached from learning and the education system, despite everyone my age having their lives revolve around school. I knew I didn’t want to return to school, but also knew I wanted go to university to pursue a degree in Mental Health Nursing. Having initially gained my degree in Musical Theatre I decided it was finally time to follow my dreams. I always strived for a career in healthcare throughout school but due to not meeting the university entry requirements, I thought this ambition unrealistic.
This all changed when I became aware of access courses available online. After doing thorough research I decided rather quickly upon DistanceLearningCentre.com. A couple of days later I enrolled in an Access to HE Diploma for Midwifery. Coming from Scotland, where further education is free, the concept of funding my own course was something I was happy to accept.

There was a time when I thought I would never learn English properly. Don’t get me wrong – I have still a lot to learn. However, now I am more than capable of writing without hesitation. I am the kind of person who love challenges; therefore, I am always choosing more difficult way. And I have chosen remote learning to achieve something I have set as my target many years ago.
Studying remotely through DistanceLearningCentre.com was a journey filled with both challenges and rewarding moments. As English is not my first language, the process demanded a considerable amount of effort. I remember those days when I sat down, and cry, lost on a subject I couldn’t understand. I remember how difficult it was to adjust my way of thinking to create simple sentences with words I have learn that moment. I remember checking them in dictionary and falling asleep with thesaurus in my hand. But at the end the result was amazing and worth every minute of the time taken.
Each session required me to dedicate significant time to studying, reading, and writing. Despite these hurdles, the support and resources provided by the platform made the experience manageable and fruitful.
One of the most significant factors that contributed to my success was the unwavering support of my tutor. Every time I have struggled, she was there for me answering every silly question and encouraging me to do what I can throughout the course.
