I had worked as a circus performer in the UK and internationally for the past 10 years. Partly due to the devastating impact of the pandemic on the entertainment industry, I decided on a career change and began researching a route to retrain as a therapeutic radiographer.
As a mature student I decided to begin an Access Course, this was daunting as I had left education 10 years previously and hadn't studied science since my GCSE's ... I was also 6 months pregnant. I knew the radiography degree would take 3 years so was keen to complete my access course as quickly as possible.
DistanceLearningCentre.com gave me the opportunity to study at a time in my life that I couldn't commit to the set schedule of a college. I was able to begin the course there and then while I was 6 months pregnant, finishing when my daughter was 5 months old. I studied at my own pace around my pregnancy insomnia and my baby's naps. I took breaks as and when I needed them and finished 1 month before the moderation deadline. With the support and guidance of my tutors I achieved grades beyond what I needed to secure a place at my 1st choice university St George's London.

Due to the pandemic and the negative stigma around studying online it made me more reluctant to want to study online, however since the first day of applying the DistanceLearningCentre.com staff were extremely informative and willing to help every step of the way. All the tutors I had were exceptionally knowledgeable about their subject, understanding and kind-hearted. Ultimately, they wanted me to succeed as much as I did myself, whenever I felt down or unmotivated, they would be encouraging and enthusiastic, which allowed me to power through and successfully complete the course to the best of my ability. Having spent 6 years in the British Army and also having decided to pursue a career change, I started my Access to Medicine Diploma in March 2021. This was following a recommendation from a colleague who had completed a similar course.
The course is excellently written with information perfectly explained for those who have been out of education for long periods of time. The workload is also extremely manageable; I completed mine in less than 12 months whilst working full time, moving house and still undergoing several overseas military deployments in support of the COVID pandemic.
Through the help and constant academic support from the DistanceLearningCentre.com, I received offers from all 5 of my chosen universities! I have decided to study for an intercalated undergraduate Masters degree (MSci) in Biochemistry and French at the University of Birmingham; I start in September 2021.

I initially enrolled for a full-time course at a college in 2019, from which I dropped out because I did not meet the requirements to obtain a student loan.
DistanceLearningCentre.com was the only option that was available for me to pursue the Access to higher Education course. As a self-funded student with a job and family I had to adapt to my new routine. In a normal environment, I was ready, well I felt like I was. But in 2020 things changed, albeit for everyone. Working for the NHS my work changed things significantly during the lockdown, this, plus home schooling kids, I had to adapt even more.
Being at the heart of a changing NHS in the time of the pandemic was an honour, and I would not have chosen anything different. My priorities were my work and helping my children to navigate the challenges of a school year that was not normal. Against this background, I enrolled for the distance learning program.

Enrolling to study remotely for a science course, was overwhelmingly nerve-wracking but my tutors were very kind, supportive and helpful.
