I began studying the Access to Allied Health Professions Diploma with DistanceLearningCentre.com in October 2020, with a view to getting into university to become a Midwife.
At the height of the Covid pandemic, lots of people around me were learning online but it was something I hadn't done before, made even more daunting by the fact I had been out of education for 15 years.
Enrolment was easy and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Anything they couldn't answer they would always find out and get back to me promptly.
My tutors were available during unsociable hours which was a blessing to me as I did most of my course later in the evening after work and once my 2 children were asleep. I have recently completed my course studying the Access to Higher Education Diploma (Allied Health Professions) I have enjoyed my time and gained so much more knowledge in the area I want to work. I will be looking to use my skills achieved to gain entry for Nursing at University in a couple of years time when my children are less dependent on me.
In the short term I have achieved work part time at a hospital to gain more knowledge about the field I'd like to end up working in. The studying for me has been hard at times and I've had to take a couple of breaks because of life challenges.

When COVID 19 hit the world in 2020 it was a time of grief, anxiety, fear, and most of all uncertainty. The one thing that stood out to me was the determination, courage, and dedication of all the NHS key workers but especially the healthcare professionals. This was inspirational to me and motivated me to pursue a career in Nursing.
Having been put on furlough from my job and having some recent life changes I decided to look into ways I could pursue my dream into university. Having left school with not many GCSEs and coming up to the age of 30 it seemed like a million miles away.
I then came across DistanceLearningCentre.com to study the Higher Education Diploma and my Maths Level 2 Functional Skills. I was amazed at how easy the process was and how it fit in so well with my lifestyle, especially getting a job on a COVID ward and working lots of long hours.

At the age of 36 I had progressed to the top of my career ladder and was looking for change. I had always thought about pursuing a career as a Paramedic, but the idea of getting into and going to university was daunting after 18 years out of education. I contacted the universities I was interested in studying with about entry requirements, all of them recommended an Access to HE Diploma. Although initially sceptical about distance learning, my research directed me towards studying with DistanceLearningCentre.com, and what a great decision that was.
Enrolment was fast and easy, and I was soon talking to my first tutor and starting my first unit. The learning materials set you up for your assignments and with help from my tutors and some research I was soon earning distinctions, something I never thought possible before. My tutors were great, always fast the reply to emails, book me in for a tuition if needed, and an encouraging word when times got tough. I cannot thank them enough.
The assignment deadlines were set by myself, allowing me to maintain a full-time job and continue to volunteer as a community first responder for the ambulance service and a St John vaccinator. I have been offered places at all five universities I applied for, and now have an unconditional offer from my first-choice university to study Paramedic Science.
