I decided to change my career to nursing during the first COVID lockdown as I felt that I wanted to contribute more to society and my passion has always been the care of other people. Going from a restaurant manager to an online learner was quite a steep jump so I approached online learning and DistanceLearningCentre.com with some trepidation. The research was presented in an interesting and engaging way and the assignments that I really feared turned out to be the ones that I loved the most!

After following the lure of money at 17, rather than sticking through with my A-Levels I found myself hitting my 30's stuck and unable to follow my dream of studying paramedicine; that was until I stumbled across DistanceLearningCentre.com! Right from the beginning, I was able to access fantastic support, engaging and interesting learning materials and even a student community feel, something I wasn't expecting with distance learning, more so during a pandemic!
Having suffered from a chronic mental illness during most of my adult life my confidence was low, as was my motivation. However, I was lucky enough to be assigned two fantastic tutors, who were able to spark inspiration and enthusiasm and within just a few modules I was feeling at home and confident with studying. Incredibly, I was able to complete my diploma with 45 distinctions - the highest I could achieve! I feel very well prepared for my degree - Tomira Nawrocka
The Covid pandemic changed many people's lives. For me, the first lockdown was a time to stop and reflect on the past and the future. For a while, I had been thinking of changing my career, but it seemed to be very hard to accomplish, due to having a young family and various responsibilities.
However, in June 2020 something changed, I decided to give it a go and enrolled onto DistanceLearningCentre.com Access to Radiography. I did not know what to expect from the course and had mixed feelings of excitement and fear, because it has been a long time since I have been at university. Now, a year later, I know it was the best decision and there was nothing to be afraid of. I really enjoyed the vast majority of the units I studied, my tutors were very helpful, approachable and professional and the course materials offered a good base for the further research.
I feel very well prepared for my degree, which I cannot wait to start in September, at my first-choice university. It did get hard at times, especially when I had to combine the studies with work, family life and house chores, but I had my end goal in sight and focused on it. Due to struggles with my mental health throughout my adolescence, I didn't achieve the correct grades to attend university at that time. I wasn't sure which direction my life was heading in. So, during the COVID-19 lockdown, I decided to start the Access to Higher Education course in Psychology and Criminology, as I was ready for a career change, and felt ready to take the next step.
I was nervous at first, as I wasn't sure if this style of learning would suit me, or if I was even capable of succeeding. I am so glad I took a chance and pushed myself, because 5 months later I finished the course with all distinctions and received multiple offers to study Children's Mental Health at university. I couldn't believe it and I couldn't be more excited to help other children who are struggling with their own mental health, just as I once did.
I had two wonderful tutors who supported me throughout my studies and provided me with helpful feedback which enabled me to keep improving my work. Before I started this course, I had no idea what my future held, but I now feel fully prepared to start my journey into higher education, and I am so grateful to DistanceLearningCentre.com for giving me the push I needed. I was able to study at my own pace, fitting in my study around working part-time. - Georgina Stidston
I first attempted university in 2014 and quickly realised I had chosen the wrong course and left after one year. I spent the next few years training and working as an Outdoor Pursuits Instructor, enjoying my work but always wishing that I could go back and study again (choosing the right course this time around). However, I did not have the correct qualifications to study what I was interested in.
The initial Covid-19 situation brought me back to the UK after 5 months in New Zealand and I ended up with little paid work and a hard decision to make. I learned about Access to HE courses and discovered DistanceLearningCentre.com. I chose to study with them as they seemed to have the best options for what I was looking for. I began studying an Access to Radiography course and found it to be a great stepping stone for me to apply for the courses I wanted to study. It helped me to refresh my knowledge in preparation for returning to university and I was able to study at my own pace, fitting in my study around working part-time. I am quite an independent person, with good motivation to study, and it was lovely that the tutors were really helpful and always checked in to see how I was getting on.
I received offers from all of my university choices and have accepted a place to study Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiography) BSc at the University of Exeter. I am very thankful that this option for study was available and look forward to heading to university! (July 2021)
