Having put off perusing a possible career as a paediatric nurse for a time, I finally gave myself the push to start an Access course in nursing with DistanceLearningCentre.com in April 2012. It felt like a brave and rather scary decision but after lots of deliberation and support from my family I decided to have a try. It really has been life changing and I am so glad that I took the plunge. I am finishing (in the next month or so) a 10 year position as a teaching assistant to begin university in September, studying for a degree in child health.

Going back to education (especially as a mature student!) can feel a little frightening but I would say to anyone, young or old, just go for it! The course isn't easy and it takes commitment as well as a lot of hard work however, if you want something so much, you can reach your goal. The course itself was extremely interesting and really does set the bar at a high level, giving you the confidence you need to contemplate going further.

I left school with only GCSEs after a bad experience put me off sixth form and university. After a few false starts in different types of employment and doing volunteer work I realised what I really wanted to do in life, work as a paramedic. I realised that to get a place at University to do the training was going to be tough as its highly oversubscribed and I had no 'A' levels.

I researched approved access courses and found DistanceLearningCentre.com which sounded ideal for me as I would be able to work, volunteer and study at the same time. It is a lot of work but the tutors are very supportive and I finally completed the course in ten months and in time to apply for this September's University intake. I am delighted to say that I have a place to train as a paramedic this September. Thanks to all at DistanceLearningCentre.com.

When I finished my A Levels I decided to take a gap year to work full time and train as a pharmacy dispenser. My grades were not quite good enough to attain a university place and I was looking for a course to top up my UCAS points. When I found DistanceLearningCentre.com I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to really find out what my degree would involve and get a head start, as well as receive a recognisable qualification.

My tutors were incredibly helpful and supportive. They were in constant contact with myself to ensure I was focussed on my work and encouraging me to achieve my full potential. They gave me great advice and helped me out when I needed it.

Having completed the Access To Primary Teaching course, I have secured a place at Nottingham Trent University to study Primary Education in September. Thanks to DistanceLearningCentre.com I can now train to do the job I have always wanted!

I have just completed the Access course to Nursing and have a place at University for September. The course has been hard work but I have managed to fit it around children, dogs, rabbits and full-time work including working nights and 12 hour shifts!

I must admit there have been times that I came close to throwing the towel in however I am really proud of myself as are my family for my achievement. I have thoroughly enjoyed the course, the materials are straight forward, both my tutors have been fantastic and the brilliant students on the forum are always so supportive. I would just like to take this opportunity, if you are thinking about embarking on the course, to urge you to go for it and realise your dream too.

After leaving school with not many qualifications and no idea what I wanted to do with my life (who really knows at 17, right?) I took up a job in retail until I found my way. I become more and more interested in the Paramedic profession as I has always admired their ability to make life-changing decisions whilst working under great pressure. I researched pathways into the profession and my heart sank when I found out I had to go to university. I had no A Levels and there was no way I could give up my job to go back to college, even on a part time basis.

Then I discovered DistanceLearningCentre.com, the answer to my prayers, an opportunity to study whilst still being able to carry on with my work and home life. I was wary at first as at school I was far from academic and the science based subjects had always been a struggle for me. I needn't have worried as from the very beginning the tutors at DistanceLearningCentre.com were fantastic, always on hand to give support and guidance when needed.

The course itself is very logically structured and the course materials provided are fantastic and easy to follow. You need a lot of determination to complete this course and it can be very tough at times especially trying to juggle other aspects of your life. I managed to complete the course gaining distinctions in most of the subjects which was a great achievement for me and now that I have finished I actually miss the study. I never thought I would say that! I can honestly say though that the day I completed my course was one of the proudest moments of my life and would I do it all over again now I know how much work the course entailed? You bet I would!
