One of the most gratifying moments during the process was seeing my efforts translating into progress - Nkechinyere Ikpefu-Jude
Completion of the Access to Higher Education Diploma in Nursing is not only about getting a qualification but rather a significant step towards achieving the career objective set long ago.
My decision to take part in the Access course was inspired by the wish to develop further academically and realise the dream of becoming a Registered Adult Nurse. Meanwhile, having a job and taking care of family, I should have made well-thought plans, been persistent and focused on resuming studies. At different occasions, I had to start studying immediately after leaving work or finishing household chores and doing assignments and preparing for tests. However, the process did not look easy; however, abandoning the course was never an option for me.
This particular course offered by DistanceLearningCentre.com had all the necessary flexibility for me to continue my job and family life while getting an academic qualification. In addition, it has helped me restore confidence in my capabilities as a learner. Some initially difficult subjects started becoming areas where I could see my further development, and every assignment, tutor's feedback and completed unit was bringing me closer to my goal.
One of the most gratifying moments during the process was seeing my efforts translating into progress. The knowledge and skills obtained as a result of completing Access Diploma have become the basis for further nursing education and understanding of the scientific background of the care I provide.
It is also necessary to mention my tutors who made a great contribution by providing me with useful feedback, advice and encouragement and helping me continuously improve throughout the course. Being nominated for an Award of Achievement by one or several of my tutors became really motivating for me.
Now looking back, I can say that my achievements cover not only a completed course but also very early mornings, late nights, approaching deadlines, sacrifices I had to make and constant thoughts about my further objectives.
It turned out that being an adult learner, having a family and other responsibilities does not mean that one cannot achieve educational goals; it just means that the way will be different.
At present, I am moving forward to achieve my dream of becoming a Registered Adult Nurse and try to use my experience and education to deliver compassionate, knowledgeable and person-centred care to those who need it the most.
I want to express my gratitude to DistanceLearningCentre.com and to my tutors for making this part of my career possible. Completion of the Access Diploma has become the accomplishment of great pride for me, but more importantly, it has made it possible to enter a profession which I wanted to enter for such a long time.
Seeing myself achieve academically was incredibly rewarding - Megan Maher
Before enrolling with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I had previously tried to complete my A levels. However, due to my long-term struggles with my mental health, I found it extremely difficult to continue with traditional education. At that time, I felt as though my future dreams of going to university were being put on hold, and everything felt out of my control. After doing research and hearing about the option to do an Access to Higher Education diploma with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I realised that this could be exactly what I needed. The flexibility of being able to study from home and at my own pace made the course feel achievable in a way that other forms of education had not.
I started my diploma while hospitalised for my mental health with little hope for my future and struggled to imagine the things I had once wanted for myself. Starting my diploma during such a difficult period was challenging, but it also became such a positive thing for me to focus on. Having this course to focus on gave me a sense of purpose when I really needed it.
My results from the diploma were able to reflect the dedication and effort I had put into the course. Seeing myself achieve academically was incredibly rewarding and helped change the way I viewed myself as a student.
My tutors were a huge part of my experience. Their consistent check-ins and in-depth feedback on every assignment helped me stay on track and understand where I could improve.
This course has shown me that you do not need to give up on your goals- you simply need to find a different path to reach them.
DistanceLearningCentre.com gave me the opportunity to gain...qualifications while continuing to work full-time. - Joel Wright
I have had a varied career, starting as a gas engineer before moving into education as a plumbing lecturer and later becoming a Maintenance Manager for a GP surgery. Despite enjoying these roles, I had always wanted to become a paramedic.
That ambition was reignited when I met an old friend who had become a paramedic and encouraged me to pursue the career. I joined my local ambulance service, hoping to progress into a frontline role, but recruitment opportunities became limited. Rather than wait several years, I decided to apply to a university to study Paramedic Science.
Although I had sufficient UCAS points, I lacked the science qualifications needed for entry. The Access to Higher Education course through DistanceLearningCentre.com gave me the opportunity to gain those qualifications while continuing to work full-time.
The course was challenging and required a great deal of commitment and self-motivation, but it was also incredibly rewarding. Not only did I achieve the grades required for university, but I also developed my academic writing, research, and study skills. Many of the topics genuinely interested me, and I often found myself exploring them in greater depth.
I am now delighted to have secured a place to study Paramedic Science at university. My advice to anyone considering an Access course is simple: if you are committed to your goal and willing to put in the effort, it is an excellent pathway into higher education.

However, after my experience with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I’m more certain than ever that I can chase my goals, and that they don’t have to remain dreams.
