Within my first year of moving to the UK, I completed my Access course—achieving Distinctions in almost every unit - Sabreen Abdi

I moved to the UK shortly after turning 18, feeling very lost and uncertain about my future. I had no UK qualifications, but I held onto my dream of attending university and building a career in nursing.

The Access to HE Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery gave me the opportunity to turn that dream into a realistic goal. Throughout the course, I challenged myself every day, pushed beyond what I thought I was capable of and remained determined even when things felt difficult. With the encouragement of my tutors, I grew academically and personally, gaining confidence, resilience and a much stronger belief in myself.

Within my first year of moving to the UK, I completed my Access course—achieving Distinctions in almost every unit—and passed my GCSEs. These remain some of the proudest achievements of my life. This experience has shown me that with determination, hard work and the right support, it is possible to overcome uncertainty and create a new future for yourself. I am incredibly grateful for how far I have come and excited to continue pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse.

I am very proud of what I have achieved through the course - Callum Walker

Completing this course alongside my job as a physiotherapy assistant has strengthened my knowledge and confidence, bringing me one step closer to achieving my ambition of becoming a physiotherapist.

Ever since school, I’ve held the dream of becoming a physiotherapist. However, I always felt I was on an uphill battle academically as it took me a while to even pass my GCSEs. I was fortunate enough, however, to be employed as a physiotherapy assistant at 20 years old, where I have currently worked for nearly 5 years in several areas, including the Adult Intensive Care Unit at Band 4.

Despite loving my role, I couldn’t lose sight of what I really wanted and remained ambitious. Here, I was happy to find out that I could do the “Access to Higher Education Diploma (Allied Health Professions)”  with DistanceLearningCentre.com, which I could do alongside my job. It was also nice to see other people’s testimonials and similarities with challenges that come with being a mature student, which was motivating.

A huge positive with the course was how helpful my two tutors were when I was completing the modules. Their replies were quick, and their phone calls were essential at ensuring I was meeting the set criteria for the assignments and staying on the right track. Furthermore,  I was surprised how much the course heavily developed my independent learning, as I could use the course’s supportive learning material as a very good guide and then branch into my own research. Overall, knowing how to present my work and which sources work well will be beneficial for the future.

While I was able to achieve distinctions in my assignments for the grade required for university, it wasn’t easy. It required personal sacrifice, including giving up most of my time, holidays and most of my annual leave. Thankfully, the course allowed flexibility with extensions when needed, which gave me the time to properly develop my assignments rather than rushing them.

Overall, I am very proud of what I have achieved through the course. I now look forward to applying for physiotherapy, which is currently a highly competitive profession, but with my work experience and successful completion of the course, I am hopeful that this is a positive step towards my desired career.

I commenced my journey with DistanceLearningCentre.com on January 7, 2025, focusing on Social Care. DistanceLearningCentre.com provided me with the opportunity to enhance my knowledge and advance my career as a Social Care Officer for Adults on the small Island of St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. Both tutors were exceptional and offered tremendous support throughout my studies, and I must emphasise that I thoroughly enjoyed this course. However, I acknowledge that I encountered some challenges while pursuing the diploma, particularly in balancing work responsibilities and preparing for my wedding on July 19, 2025. I am grateful for the unwavering support from my sister, Emma, and my husband, Jeremy, as well as the remarkable Adult Social Care Team with whom I work. Overall, this experience has been invaluable, and I highly recommend this course. I take great pride in my achievement.

The DistanceLearningCentre.com course really has made my dream not a possibility but a reality, and I am so grateful - Victoria Dawson

It took me several years to figure out what I wanted to do with my working life and, just as I was working towards medical school as a 26 year-old post-graduate, I fell pregnant with my daughter. I'm a proud multitasker, but I wasn't sure I could juggle raising a baby and medical school, so I channelled my passion for healthcare into a career in NHS management. I loved my work, but every time I worked alongside clinical colleagues, I felt the pull towards what I'd always wanted to do.

This year, my daughter turns 18. As she's been working towards her A-Levels, I've been working towards my Access to Medicine course. One of the biggest advantages of studying with DistanceLearningCentre.com was the flexibility — it meant I could fit my studies around my job, family, and everything else life threw at me. My daughter and I even studied side by side, encouraging and supporting each other.

Returning to education after so many years was exciting but daunting. I met some incredible people of similar age, experience and with similar goals, and we formed a support group to keep each other motivated. The encouragement from my tutors was excellent — they were always there with video calls, phone calls, and guidance even though I gave myself some tight deadlines to get things done!

I'm incredibly proud to say that I submitted for moderation in June 2026 and achieved a full Distinction profile. Even more amazingly, I was accepted into Anglia Ruskin University, my first-choice medical school, and will be starting in September 2026.

A few years ago, if you had asked me, I never would have believed this was possible. If returning to college or retaking A-Levels had been my only option, I don't think I'd have been able to achieve what I have. The DistanceLearningCentre.com course really has made my dream not a possibility but a reality, and I am so grateful.

To anyone wondering whether it's too late, you are too busy, or you can't do it, I would say: do yourself the biggest favour you ever will and take the plunge. You never know what you are capable of until you really try.

When I first started with DistanceLearningCentre.com, it was slightly bewildering, but the tools given do work. Read the full SAQ sheets, and they set you up for the TAQs. My tutor has been super helpful, and I now have the confidence to take on Portsmouth University.
