Studying at DistanceLearningCentre.com has truly been an incredibly valuable and important part of my life - Luke Rynhoud
One of the things that stood out to me was the importance of skills like self -discipline and independence in my studies. I struggle with ADHD, so these skills never came naturally to me; however, through the amazing support and guidance from my tutor, I was able to successfully navigate the challenges I had. My first module was on interview and application skills, and what I really liked about this module was that it was very helpful in getting me thinking about my future in a clear and structured manner. And this was important for me because it helped inspire a genuine passion for my academic and subsequent career ventures. The next module was about developing your research skills, and because independent research is such a vital part of studying at DistanceLearningCentre.com, especially for scientific subjects like Psychology, this module was very important for getting a strong base for studying. The next module was of equal importance because it was about developing and practising academic writing skills. The topic was on whether nature or nurture has the greatest influence on behaviour. Because this debate is such a fundamental part of Psychology, I was able to gain a good overall view of Psychology as a whole before I moved on to the more intricate details of Psychology. This topic also greatly helped me develop the skill of articulating my understanding of a subject in an academic manner.
I found the part of the diploma on counselling very fascinating because I got to learn about the nature of Human Psychology and how it can be adapted and improved using insightful theories such as the ones provided by psychologists like Carl Rogers. Additionally, through studying Psychology, my genuine passion for social sciences really came into fruition. One of the topics which really interested me was child development because I believe if you can understand how humans’ biological nature interacts with the environment during their early years, you are able to acquire invaluable insight into fundamental parts of human behaviour such as language acquisition and how attachment styles in adult life are influenced by childhood experiences. Overall, studying at DistanceLearningCentre.com has truly been an incredibly valuable and important part of my life. It has allowed me to develop skills such as self-discipline and independent research skills. And although sifting through thousands of articles on PubMed and discerning which articles are academically reliable can be very frustrating sometimes, through the amazing support of my tutor and the learning materials provided by DistanceLearningCentre.com, I was able to develop the skills which are vital to my eventual endeavour into higher education. And most importantly, I was able to get a distinction in all my assessments, which gives me the freedom to get into my dream university. And I am forever grateful to DistanceLearningCentre.com for helping me achieve this.
I’m proud to be starting a Social Work degree this September - Nawal Jama
I discovered this distance learning course at 19 when I was determined to pursue my dream of becoming a social worker. Throughout the course, my passion for social work has only grown stronger, and I’m proud to be starting a Social Work degree this September. This journey has taught me so much about the profession while also helping me develop independence and confidence that will support me throughout my future studies and career.
Lastly, the support throughout the course has been excellent. The tutors were always helpful and reassuring, particularly during the UCAS application process.
I liked doing the written assignments and really found myself fully throwing myself into the course, which was reflected in my results! - Evie Blanchard
I started this course when I knew I could not keep going through my IBDP qualification. I had done the first year and suffered from mental health issues and felt I could no longer keep up with the vigorous and draining experience of school. There were two main issues I had with that, though. Firstly, I loved learning new things and gathering knowledge; the second being that I desperately wanted to go to university.
During my summer, I spent hours looking at ways I could manage to potentially go to university whilst also trying to take time to fight my anorexia, depression and anxiety. Then I found this course and honestly thought it too good to be true. It allowed me to study a fascinating range of courses, allowed me to get a secondary qualification, and it was online! I immediately booked a video call with one of the tutors, and I sat in with my parents as a whole new door was opened for me.
Immediately, I fell in love with the course I decided to take, which was Law and Criminology. The course's interesting diversity in topics and in-depth explanations were so refreshing. I managed to do my course on days I felt I could (those days were always my favourite) and allowed myself rest when I felt I could not function properly. I liked doing the written assignments and really found myself fully throwing myself into the course, which was reflected in my results!
Ultimately, I found this course not only fun and interesting, but really life-changing. It has opened my eyes to different pathways and allowed me to grow as a person and discover who I am. Through this year, I have not only finished with full distinctions but recovered from mental illness, and for that I cannot thank this course enough. I am going to the University of Nottingham this academic year coming to study Sociology and Criminology and am so excited! The support, the tutors, the information and good communication are what make this course stand out. I am eternally grateful to have found this.
I relit my dream of becoming a biologist through an Access to HE course in science - Amber Johnston
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, my struggle with mental health prevented me from returning to physical school, which created many challenges for my education. After being unable to finish my A-Levels, I felt lost and as though my goals weren’t ever going to be achievable.
A year later, I discovered DistanceLearningCentre.com, where I relit my dream of becoming a biologist through an Access to HE course in science. During my studies, I gained countless valuable skills, such as self-discipline and new research methods, which helped me regain confidence in myself and what I can achieve. The flexibility and accessibility of the diploma, alongside countless support from my tutors, granted an alternative path to continue pursuing education that previously felt out of reach.
I have now accomplished my diploma with nearly full distinction marks, and received all five offers from the universities I applied to. I am currently preparing to attend my first choice to study a BSc in Biology in September.
The transition from soldier to student - Joe Howell
After joining the military at 17 and training to become an Aircraft Mechanic, I realised that this was not the dream career for me. However, I discovered that my passions lay in other aspects of military life: fitness, discipline, nutrition and the outdoors. I became determined to turn my passions into a career by studying Sports Science and Nutrition at university.
I researched how to equip myself with the best possible chance of going to university with no A-levels once my time in the military came to an end. I discovered DistanceLearningCentre.com. It allowed me to spend my evenings and weekends studying, whether that be in the UK or when deployed overseas. It’s not easy juggling studying for an Access to HE Diploma in Science alongside a full-time job in the British Army. There were certainly days I banged my head against the desk and battled with the thoughts that I had bitten off more than I could chew. However, with every module passed, my confidence grew and credits quickly accumulated. After eighteen months, I passed the course, achieving distinctions in all modules.
I rushed out of full-time education at the earliest opportunity, and although I do not regret that decision, the opportunity to work on the Diploma with passionate, professional tutors has made me realise what a privilege it is to be taught and learn new things consistently. I am excited by the opportunity of returning to university in my 20’s, bringing with me the discipline, resilience and perspective that life in the military instils in a young man.
The course has facilitated a new chapter in my life, giving me both the academic foundation and the self-belief to pursue a career aligned with my passions. For that, I am extremely grateful.
