After ongoing mental health struggles and a battle with anorexia, sixth form and completing my A-levels was no longer possible for me. I felt as if my life was stuck, I had let my younger self down, and the idea of going to university to pursue my passions had slipped away, but finding DistanceLearningCentre.com changed everything for me.
I enrolled in the Social Science Access course, which gave me the chance to not only continue with my education but to do it in a way that was flexible, structured, and motivating for my recovery. I am going on to study criminology and criminal justice at university this September, something I never thought would be possible. Whilst living in a foreign country, with a baby and a failing relationship with his father, during COVID, I was incredibly homesick. I was at a loss with how to protect my mental health, for the sake of my son and myself. I had lost the new job I had started before my pregnancy due to COVID, and the opportunity to go back wasn’t available to me at that time, so I came to the extremely difficult decision of pursuing my dream as a Physiotherapist.
Applying for the Physiotherapy degree required me to retake my GCSE maths exam and complete an access course at distinction level, and of course, make the heartbreaking move back to the UK with just myself and my son. At the time, I felt like this was so far out of my reach (especially as I would be joining the degree at the age of 40).
I began my journey with DistanceLearningCentre.com, and with the support from amazing tutors and the flexibility of the course, it was just what I needed to keep pushing through. I had numerous extensions and anxious moments, but I eventually completed the course with the distinctions I needed, alongside getting the maths grade I needed.
As a single parent, dealing with a breakup, big move back to the UK, settling my son into nursery and myself into three jobs, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done! But I now know how hard I can push myself when I really need to for a future that I am hugely passionate about.

Joining DistanceLearningCentre.com was the pivotal moment in my education. My passion is helping people through science and medicine, and although I did not have the grades to enter university right away, I was determined to change that and pursue a career in Diagnostic Radiography.
It was not always easy to balance studying with my personal life. There were times when I was uncertain if I would be able to continue. The tutors, though, were fantastic.
