Keep giving yourself mini-goals, which will stop you from feeling overwhelmed - Billie Davies

At 17 years old, I was lacking direction and unsure of what I wanted to do career wise. This meant that I lacked interest in school work, resulting in leaving shortly after my AS level exams. I went straight into a job in London, and have been working in various admin roles ever since.

I've always felt that I wanted to do more but felt it was too late to go back to "school". However, after ten years of jumping from job to job, I was lucky enough to spend a week in a primary school for some work experience. It was during this week that it clicked and I finally realised that I wanted to work with children. I immediately started researching routes into teaching and realised that an Access course was the way forward; shortly afterwards I enrolled onto the Access to Childhood Studies diploma.

The DistanceLearningCentre.com course worked well for me as it allowed me to study in my spare time, doing everything online. The course was certainly one of the most difficult, yet rewarding things I have ever done. Balancing studies, making time to complete assessments and read materials, alongside a full time job is not easy, however, I remember getting excited to see my grades for work I'd handed in; I could feel my confidence increasing with every assessment!

The advice I would give to anyone considering the Access course is to go for it. You will certainly need to be self-motivated and disciplined (qualities I never thought I had), but every hour you put in will be so worth it. Keep giving yourself mini-goals, which will stop you from feeling overwhelmed.

The tutors are so supportive and their feedback is so helpful. I feel so proud of myself, and could never have imagined that 2 months before my 30th birthday, I would be receiving a conditional offer from Anglia Ruskin to study Early Childhood Studies. To think that I could be graduating in 3 years' time is a dream come true. Please don't be put off by how long it will take ? the time will pass anyway. (Jun 2018)

I wanted to try a new challenge, learn something new with no pressure - Diane Maxwell

Having already worked in my current job for 16 years, I wanted to try a new challenge, learn something new with no pressure and do it the comfort of my own home.

With DistanceLearningCentre.com, I was able to do all of that, great tutors, support when I needed it and motivation when I needed it. I have now completed my course Access to HE diploma (Allied Health Professions), which sets me up for a new job with new challenges. Thank you to my tutors, your help and mentoring has been invaluable. (Jun 2018)

Their guidance and reassurance helped me enormously - Rebecca Ella

I always knew that I wanted to go to university but after completing my A-Levels I realised that I didn't have enough points and it really knocked my confidence.

After reading about the DistanceLearningCentre.com online I decided to take the leap and it turned out to be one of my best achievements to date. I enrolled on the HE Access to Social Work and studied for just under a year.

To begin with I was really unsure of my ability to write assignments and sit exams so was happy when given guidance on how to do this. All in all though I really enjoyed the coursework orientated syllabus as exams are not my forte!

I have found that this Diploma has really helped me with my self-confidence. I didn't believe in my own ability or that I'd get offered interviews at my preferred universities to study Social Work and Nursing (Adults) or even that I'd get a job as a Key Worker for adults with mental health issues and help to run the companies project in Huntington.

All of this would have not been possible without the excellent support that I received from my tutors throughout the course or the student forum. Their guidance and reassurance helped me enormously. (Jun 2018)

I wanted to pursue a career in the NHS, unfortunately I didn't have the required entry grades - Cameron McTernan

After leaving school I was unsure on which career path to take and I fluttered between jobs until the age of 21. It was then that I realised I wanted to pursue a career in the NHS as a radiographer, unfortunately I didn't have the required entry grades. I am so grateful to the whole team at DistanceLearningCentre.com for helping achieve an offer to my 1st uni. I managed to complete my access course in around 6 months, it was a lot of work but it was very doable alongside still working and definitely worth it. (Jun 2018)
