There is no doubt the course is hard work; but your hard work will be matched in guidance from your tutors - Elizabeth Preston
I worked as a Firefighter for seven years in Manchester, a job that I thoroughly enjoyed but also a job that taught me about myself and opened my eyes to the work I am truly passionate about; helping others. I gained immense job satisfaction from the trauma aspect of my job, but found myself wanting to follow casualties on to hospital and continue their care.
After years of thinking I was too old for university, that I had left it too long and didn't have the grades to apply, I researched access courses and found DistanceLearningCentre.com. With advice from their Student Services, I realised my career change was 100% possible and also that I could study whilst working, which was essential for me as an adult learner with commitments. I studied the Access to HE Diploma for Allied Health Professionals; naturally I was apprehensive as hadn't studied for some years, but the diploma includes introductory modules to prepare students for academic writing, which soon put my mind at ease.
The tutor support throughout the course was second to none; response times to email queries were excellent and the learning content was both informative and understandable. I was guided not just through my studies, but also in my application to universities, which took another stress away as I had no clue about UCAS beforehand. I gained grades I didn't know I was capable of through the support of DistanceLearningCentre.com and was offered unconditional offers at all four of my chosen universities.
I cannot recommend them highly enough, there is no doubt the course is hard work, but your hard work will be matched in guidance from your tutors. I am now in my first semester studying Children's Nursing at Edge Hill University. I have absolutely no regrets and would like to take this opportunity to again thank DistanceLearningCentre.com for their support in helping me follow my dreams. (Jun 2017)
The structure of the learning materials was excellent - Elizabeth Kavanagh
I have recently completed Access to HE diploma (Health Professions) with the help and support of my tutors.
As a working mother, I was hesitant to commit to the course, taking into account the fact I had not studied for over 20 years and how would I find the time to complete my assessments. However, I took the plunge and it was the best decision ever.
The structure of the learning material was excellent, with the start of the course focusing on, planning and writing essays, which was truly invaluable. I applied to University via UCAS through DistanceLearningCentre.com and I am excited to be starting University in September in Mental Health Nursing. It's never too late to fulfil your dreams; all you need to do is take the first step! (Jun 2017)
I have learnt more than I could have anticipated by undertaking this course - Jessica Licorish
In 2012 my life changed dramatically, I was diagnosed with a debilitating illness and it took a couple of years before I could realistically think about rebuilding myself as a professional. I knew I was unable to return to my previous line of work (Head Chef and Percussionist) so I felt studying an online Access Diploma would help as I had limited mobility and I had been helped by so many people in my recovery journey, that I knew I wanted to go on to help others. So in 2014, I applied to DistanceLearningCentre.com to study Access to Higher Education Diploma (Healthcare Professions).
The tutors were so helpful and appreciated me as a person. I was not very computer literate and had not studied for many (many) years. Knowing that self-development involves being willing to learn new skills, I was open minded. The tutors were always able to give good advice as to how to deal with information. Being regularly plagued by headaches and often experiencing fatigue, the Access Diploma took me twice as long than expected to complete; sometimes it all felt too much, but my family, friends and tutors encouraged and supported me every step of the way. And I kept going.
I have learnt more than I could have anticipated by undertaking this course: important skills such as computer skills, research skills and time management, as well as more subject specific knowledge. It is fair to say my recovery journey lead me to DistanceLearningCentre.com and the experience has been an amazing part of my recovery. (Jan 2017)
My amazing tutors were always there to help, support and guide me - Zuzana Stehlikova
Fab5 Award Nominee
I would not be where I am now if it wasn't for DistanceLearningCentre.com!
I was heavily pregnant when I enrolled on the course and looking after my baby was taking most of my time. Thanks to the support I was given, I was able to study in my own time and at my own pace towards qualifications I needed to become a student nurse.
It took a lot of discipline and self-motivation but my amazing tutors were always there to help, support and guide me through the assignments. I also received help with my UCAS application and writing my personal statement; receiving an offer from both of my chosen universities. Thank you very much! (Jan 2017)
The flexibility meant that I could study at my own pace whilst working a full time job in Paris - Anne-Marie Howell
Fab5 Award Nominee
I discovered DistanceLearningCentre.com whilst seeking an alternative route to university. An illness whilst studying for my A-Levels had resulted in me not achieving my required grades. The Access to HE (Allied Health Professions) Diploma appealed to me greatly as it combined my passion in both Psychology & Human Biology, making the course very enjoyable.
I really enjoyed the coursework orientated syllabus as previously I struggled with exams due to time pressure and memorising large amounts of information. The module structure of the Diploma allowed me to work through topics sequentially and in detail. The coursework also enabled me to read deeper into the topics, as thorough research was key to every assignment. As a result, I felt I had understood and learnt more overall.
The flexibility of the Diploma meant that I could study at my own pace whilst working a full time job in Paris. I found that the Diploma greatly helped my self-confidence, as I did not think I was capable of getting into my preferred university to study Psychology. All of this would not have been possible without the excellent support I received from my tutors throughout the course. Their guidance and reassurance helped me enormously. (Jan 2017)
