Before the access course I had attempted A-levels and two BTECS at college but I lacked the motivation as I didn't know what I wanted to do, as a result I didn't finish any of them.
So I entered the world of work where I found myself as a payroll administrator for the NHS, I quickly realised that office work was not for me. I began exploring the idea of college again but wasn't sure how I would fund it and at the same time there was a lot of media coverage regarding mental health and Stephen Fry was a big character behind the time to change movement.
I then discovered mental health nursing and I knew this was the right career for me, my job wouldn't allow me to go part-time and attend college so I was disheartened, but then I found DistanceLearningCentre.com who would allow me to pay affordable monthly payments and I could still work!
Just over a year later I have now finished my access to Nursing, Midwifery and Health Professions course and have secured a place at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge to study mental health nursing and I couldn't be happier! Starting my access to nursing with DistanceLearningCentre.com was the beginning of my new life. I have worked in care homes for 15 years and I needed to make the change now or I knew I would regret it. DistanceLearningCentre.com seemed the most practical choice to help me gain my entry qualifications as they are flexible and you can spread the cost of the course.
The course itself is hard work and there were many times I said to myself "I cant do this anymore" but with the help of the tutors and pure determination I got through it. I feel such a sense of happiness, I'm so proud of myself. This course took me 2 and a half years to complete because I worked every night until 10pm and I also have 2 small children to look after so I could only study on a weekend.
When I first started the course there were no deadlines for handing in work so I used to take plenty time doing them, but when they introduced the 2 week deadlines this really give me the kick up the butt I needed to get this course finished.
Regardless of how long its taken to complete, I have finally completed the marathon and its the best thing I have ever done.
