As a mature student returning to study, I was nervous...but the help and support I received from my tutors made all the difference - Aiden Christian

When I joined DistanceLearningCentre.com, I had hoped that it would give me a pathway into higher education. What I didn’t expect was how much it would change my confidence, my mindset and how much it would develop me as an academic student. As a mature student returning to study, I was nervous about even starting the course, let alone whether or not I could keep up throughout the year, but the help and support I received from my tutors made all the difference. They were patient, encouraging, super helpful and genuinely invested in my progress. Their feedback helped me improve upon every assessment, allowing me to develop my academic skills and become increasingly confident at every stage.

The Access to HE Diploma in Law was challenging, but in the best possible way. It pushed me to think deeply, write clearly and manage my time and research effectively. Achieving full distinctions across the course is something I’m incredibly proud of, and it’s a huge testament to both the quality of the teaching and the level of flexibility the learning environment allows, as I managed to achieve this whilst maintaining full-time employment. I’m now preparing to start university to study Law, which is something that had previously felt impossible, and a huge part of that is owed to DistanceLearningCentre.com. This course has not only provided me with new opportunities, but has also massively built my confidence and reignited my passion for learning.

I would like to thank DistanceLearningCentre.com for giving me the opportunity and support to follow my heart - Sophia Papasouliotis

I started my Access to HE course in February 2025. Just over a year earlier, I experienced a relapse of my eating disorder – I had to leave sixth form and spent three and a half months in an inpatient psychiatric unit more than 100 miles from home. When I was discharged, I realised that it would not be right for me to return to sixth form and complete my A-Levels, so I decided to pursue alternative life paths. I began an apprenticeship and was able to learn and heal a lot from my experiences, but I had an unyielding desire to go to university and complete the degree I had always aspired for. This led me to investigate alternative routes to higher education, and I came across DistanceLearningCentre.com. As a neurodivergent person, I felt relieved that there was a way to complete my pathway to university at my own pace, with guidance and support when I needed it.

Throughout my course with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I continued my role as an apprentice, working 40hrs per week and completing the college side of that as well. It was hard work, but I felt supported by the tutors and environment of DistanceLearningCentre.com to commit myself to my ambitions. The course was interesting and opened my eyes to the breadth of study open to me. I had never learned about psychology, but I found myself researching beyond the course. My tutors were kind and helpful – their responsiveness allowed me to feel confident and lessened my anxieties (stemming from Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria due to my ADHD) around receiving feedback. I fell back in love with textual analysis, applying new skills in academic research to strengthen my writing.

I was able to complete the course in almost 9 months, a much shorter timeframe than I had thought I was able to achieve and received 45 Distinction credits. My course with DistanceLearningCentre.com has given me so much confidence, both academically and personally. I received 5 offers from my dream universities, and I have now accepted an offer to study English at the University of Bristol in September. I would like to thank DistanceLearningCentre.com for giving me the opportunity and support to follow my heart.

This time 2 years ago, I was in a psychiatric unit battling a mental health condition that threatened to take my dreams, and my life. I thought I would never get the chance to do the things everyone around me was doing; I thought I might not live to see the day. Now, I have a sense of pride for letting myself try things. One of those things, my course with DistanceLearningCentre.com, now means that I will be living independently, pursuing my long-term life goals and having experiences that I know will stay with me forever.

Setbacks do not have to define your future...sometimes there is more than one route to where you want to be - Navleen Kaur

After finishing my A Levels, I wasn’t sure what career I wanted to pursue. When I eventually discovered my interest in healthcare, I realised that due to personal circumstances that had disrupted my studies, I hadn’t achieved the grades required to follow the traditional route into the field.

DistanceLearningCentre.com gave me the opportunity to bridge that gap. The Access to Medicine Diploma provided me with a second chance to prove myself academically and created a pathway towards university and a career in healthcare.

The course was challenging, but the flexibility of distance learning allowed me to work at my own pace while managing other commitments. The support and guidance from my tutor also helped me stay motivated and believe in my abilities.

More than just gaining a qualification, the experience taught me to be more independent, disciplined and resilient. It showed me that setbacks do not have to define your future, and that sometimes there is more than one route to where you want to be.

I will now be going on to university to study Dental Therapy, and I’m excited to continue building a career in healthcare. DistanceLearningCentre.com helped me turn a difficult period in my education into an opportunity to create a new path towards the future I want.

Studying with the DistanceLearningCentre.com has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. As a mature student returning to education, I found in this diploma not only academic growth but also a renewed sense of purpose and confidence. Every unit — from psychology to criminology — challenged me to think critically, write with precision, and believe in my ability to succeed.

Completing the Access to HE Diploma was the result of determination and the wonderful guidance of my tutors, whose support and feedback were invaluable throughout the course.

This qualification has opened the door for me to apply to study Law at Russell Group universities — a goal I once thought was out of reach. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to study with DistanceLearningCentre.com, and hope my journey encourages others to believe that it’s never too late to start again and aim high.

This course gave me the confidence and qualifications to take the next step towards my nursing career - Uchechi Anne Amusiogo

When I started my Access to Nursing Diploma, I wanted to challenge myself academically and prove that I was capable of achieving something I could be proud of. I am particularly proud to have completed the graded units with 42 credits at Distinction and 3 credits at Merit, especially while balancing my studies with family life and other responsibilities. There were times when it was difficult, and I felt overwhelmed, but I remained focused and kept going. Looking back at what I have achieved makes the experience even more rewarding.

My experience of studying with DistanceLearningCentre.com has been very positive. The course was well-structured, and the learning materials were detailed, clear and easy to follow. There was a good balance of research and practical learning, and subjects such as Human Biology, Human Physiology, Psychology and Mental Health helped me understand health from different perspectives. I particularly enjoyed learning about how the body works, as well as how psychological and mental health factors can affect a person's overall wellbeing. This made what I was learning feel relevant to my goal of studying Nursing.

One of the things I valued most was the quality of feedback from my tutors. It was detailed and constructive, and I was able to use the comments from one assignment to improve the next. Over time, this helped me structure my work better, use evidence more effectively and express my ideas more clearly. I could see the improvement in my academic writing as the course progressed, which gave me greater confidence in my ability and has helped prepare me for university-level study.

Although I studied through distance learning, I never really felt distant from my tutors. They were approachable and responsive whenever I needed guidance or clarification, and I always felt that support was available when I needed it. This was particularly important when I was trying to manage my studies alongside other responsibilities.

Completing the diploma has given me more than a qualification. I have gained knowledge, improved my research and academic writing skills, and become more confident in myself as a learner. Most importantly, it has brought me closer to my goal of becoming a nurse.

I am very grateful to my tutors for their support, encouragement and feedback throughout the course, and for recognising my efforts through this nomination. I am proud of what I have achieved and would happily recommend the programme to anyone looking for a supportive and flexible route into Nursing or further study.
