I work as an Emergency Care Assistant in the Ambulance Service; my natural progression would be to be a paramedic. To do this, I needed to complete the Access course to Higher Education in Paramedicine in order to fulfil the criteria and apply to University.

This was a great course as it enabled me to study alongside my full time job as I fitted the study around my shifts. The help and support of my tutors was always on hand. I am now in a position to apply to Portsmouth University to commence my Paramedic studies! (Jun 2018)

Approaching 40, and with a husband and 4 sons, I thought it was about time I did something for me. Working 32 hours a week as a therapy assistant, I knew occupational therapy was for me. I searched the internet for the best solution, which was to undertake a flexible Access Course, that fitted around work & family life. DistanceLearningCentre.com had that course. I contacted the University I wished to attend to check if the course was suitable, and it went from there.

I completed it in 10 months, and was able to get the 33 Distinctions needed for the course. It has been hard at times, but its about remaining focused on the overall long term goal. The Facebook page was extremely helpful, both with support and advice from fellow students, but also information about topics/units from other students and what resources they found useful. I won't lie, I am enjoying all my spare time currently, before uni starts in September.

The course worked for me, it's about having good time management and being disciplined. Having a supportive family for those crucial deadlines were a big help too. The tutors from DistanceLearningCentre.com were fab, they gave encouragement, and reminded me to stay positive. I knew that they were always at the end of an email if I needed them. It can be done! Having been out of education for a long time, I was sceptical in achieving the grades I needed to be accepted on a social work course, that suddenly changed when a friend recommended DistanceLearningCentre.com.

I have to say I wouldn't have been able to perform as well as I did, if it wasn't for the support and guidance I received from my tutors. There was always someone to help and very understanding of my personal situation. I will forever be grateful for that. (Jun 2018)

Good luck to new students and have the self belief to follow your dreams - Rachel Moles

I discovered DistanceLearningCentre.com when I was researching home learning and to incorporate my career change dream of becoming a midwife.

As a mature student I had many concerns and doubts regarding my ability to complete the online learning due to my age and how long it had been since school/college. I started the Higher Education Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery at the same time I started a new job, working as a full time receptionist in my local NHS Hospital A&E department.

I enjoyed the diploma course syllabus and also getting back into learning and improving my knowledge in key areas relevant to my new career choice. I did struggle at times with some of the assignment deadlines due to my own poor time management due to work pressures, but I remained dedicated and restructured my spare time on my days off or before a shift to devote to my studies. Another struggle was trying to learn and memorise large volumes of information in preparation for exams. As time goes on throughout the course I became better at time management and getting better prepared for exams and submitting assignments to strict deadlines. I'm not going to say I found it easy, far from it, I had times of self doubt and tears thinking I couldn't achieve the learning objectives of the course, but talking with the tutors and reading their positive feedback really helped and reassured me that I was capable of achieving this dream and completing the diploma.

I can finally smile and relax as the final assignment was submitted and had been advised by my tutor I had completed and passed the diploma. I'm awaiting my certificate and getting my final grade. I would highly recommend DistanceLearningCentre.com to anyone, it's never to late to learn and a big thank you to my two patient tutors.

Good luck to new students and have the self belief to follow your dreams, it's totally worth it and remember to give yourself a treat every now and then it helps to stay motivated. My treat was that after the course I paid my first visit to NYC! (Jun 2018)
