Whilst there are deadlines to meet you can work at your own pace - Stephanie Grundy
Fab5 Award Nominee
Knowing I needed to complete an Access Course to chase my dreams, my original plan was to go to college in the evenings to study a health course. I experienced many closed doors and negativity from those establishments telling me I would not succeed when working full time. This is when I approached DistanceLearningCentre.com and I have never looked back. It was daunting at first to know I would not study in the conventional classroom way with other students; however, the support I have received from my tutors and the forums has outweighed any of my previous college experiences.
Completing a course like this on-line requires motivation, commitment and the desire to succeed, as you are in charge of your own workload. Whilst there are deadlines to meet you can work at your own pace and enjoy the flexibility it brings.
Throughout my time studying with DistanceLearningCentre.com I have gained and strengthened so many skills ranging from time management and organisation to research and academic writing. It has been a challenge whilst having a job alongside but it has opened my eyes as to what can be achieved when you set your mind to something. I have gained so much confidence, realised I can be successful and have become an independent student which I feel is vital for university.
I would like to thank DistanceLearningCentre.com for this opportunity and to my tutors for the support and assistance in reaching my goals and preparing me for the next stage of my journey. I couldn't have done it without you. Reach for the stars and you will catch them. I can finally say ... "I'm going to be a student midwife". (Jun 16)
The tutors that have assisted me throughout my course have been incredibly helpful - Jessica Thompson
At this time in my life, I have been given the opportunity to achieve my goals and try to gain A-Levels and re-take my GCSE's to enable me to apply to University to study Midwifery.
The tutors that have assisted me throughout my course have been incredibly helpful, knowing the specific grades I needed to achieve and helping me along the way.
I have really enjoyed my Access to HE course (Midwifery) and am currently retaking my GCSE's with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I have achieved more than I needed to get into University, all with the help from my tutors at DistanceLearningCentre.com. (Jun 16)
Very helpful when I was applying to universities and even helped with my UCAS application - Ella Rigg
Fab5 Award Nominee
Before starting my Access to Midwifery course I was a Team Leader within a healthcare recruitment company, supplying temporary healthcare professionals to the NHS and private sectors. Midwifery had been an interest of my mine for many years and the idea of studying this at University was very exciting! However, as I did not complete my A-Levels, I did not meet the entry requirements I needed to apply to University.
I did a lot of research on ways I could gain some qualifications and came across DistanceLearningCentre.com. The 'What Students Say' section of the website was what really sold them to me - success stories of people who were once in the same position as me and who were passionate about making a career change and did just that! After reading through these, I enrolled in October 2014 to start my Access to Midwifery course.
It has been extremely challenging completing my diploma while in a full time management position and also with having to start two new jobs during this time. At times I thought I would never be able to complete my course! I found the modules extremely interesting, even though the work was challenging and I had to manage my time extremely well in order to meet my deadlines. My tutors have been extremely supportive and understanding throughout my studies. I have never been made to feel like any question was a silly one, even though I expect some were! They helped with all my queries and gave me direction when I needed it.
I am very proud to be able to say that I have completed my diploma with a distinction profile, something I never thought I would be able to do! I have also applied to University and am in the process of interviewing at both the Universities I applied to!
I am so grateful to DistanceLearningCentre.com for giving me the opportunity to get this far. I certainly would never have been able to get this far without the support, understanding and flexibility of both my tutors who have been amazing throughout! If you are thinking of studying at DistanceLearningCentre.com ? I can't recommend it enough. It has been such a great experience and achieving my diploma has been the most rewarding thing I have done to date. (Jun 16)
After missing out on my A-Levels due to major surgery I thought my academic goals were a write off - Evelyn Scott
After missing out on my A-Levels in 2012 due to major surgery I thought my academic goals were a write off. Three years, further treatment and many surgeries later, I stumbled across the DistanceLearningCentre.com and after reading past student testimonies (like this one you're reading now) decided to take the plunge.
Medicine/medical science have been my area of interest for some time and my first-hand experience had only deepened my enthusiasm and given me a head start; this meant the Access to Science course offered was a dream! An interesting anatomy-related syllabus with no boring photosynthesis or irrelevant maths modules was exactly what my brain had been craving.
Tutors supported me superbly throughout, this being a very 'grown up' way of learning and there being a mutual understanding of the fact that sometimes life does get in the way of writing essays - and that's okay!
The course isn't easy but it would be boring if it were. It perfectly bridges the gap between a break from academia and university - being harder than A-Level (in my opinion) but holding my interest throughout. Before completing the course I had received all but one of my university offers, but most importantly one from my top choice.
12 months and plenty of hard work and anxious waits for mark sheets down the line I've completed my course with all Distinctions and will be off to University College London in September to study MSci Applied Medical Science and honestly, I still can't quite believe it - dream achieved! (Jun 16)
Allowed me to develop academically ... and will massively support my next step in learning at University - Katie Harrison
Fab5 Award Nominee
My experience with DistanceLearningCentre.com has been nothing but fantastic from start to finish, from the ease of enrolment, the support received from all my tutors to the assignments themselves (which I really enjoyed doing).
The hardest thing for me was wanting to do the best I could possibly do, which often meant researching to an extent that I could have probably written a dissertation length piece of work for each assignment. My tutors guided and supported me in a way that allowed me to fine tune my focus, so that I could really get into the nitty gritty and explore my ideas in depth, rather than trying to cover everything in detail. The development of this skill has really allowed me to develop academically in terms of my writing and will massively support my next step in learning at University.
Without the support and encouragement I received from all those associated with DistanceLearningCentre.com, I wouldn't have been able to achieve what I have. To have the opportunity to participate in a course that is so well designed and is recognised by all the universities has been brilliant.
Due to ill health I was only able to complete 2 A levels, but I always felt that I had the potential to achieve so much more. Achieving such amazing grades in the diploma has helped me to realise that I'm not a failure and has really boosted my self esteem and confidence. (Jun 16)
