"The course reignited my passion to learn and thirst for knowledge"
There was a lot of human support ... both from other students online and from my friendly tutor - Christine Best
I completed my DistanceLearningCentre.com Access to Nursing Diploma as a 24/7 single parent to two young children. Initially I worried my dreams were unrealistic; to become a student nurse at almost 40 years old. Meeting fellow students online soon allayed these fears, as many were in similar positions, yet getting good grades. The workload proved substantial but manageable, even around two voluntary jobs and a part-time college based counselling course. My hope to rise above a life on benefits, having previously working in warehousing and gardening, is now a journey well underway.
Even when I questioned my abilities, and doubted whether I would gain a university place, my tutor kept me positive and on track. For a distance learning course, there was a lot of human support behind the scenes, both from other students online and from my friendly tutor who always had time to chat. Under my tutor's guidance I achieved full distinctions, securing a university place to study Mental Health Nursing. My chosen university's interview panel seemed particulalry impressed by the strong independent study and research skills encouraged by the course format.
From the beginning, my life has been enriched in many unexpected ways, improving my time-management, IT, academic and organisation skills, along with my self-belief and confidence. One of my biggest highlights was hitting the 'submit' button on my UCAS application, only 20 years overdue! As a teenager the whole UCAS procedure scared me rigid and I dropped out without even trying. Thankfully this Diploma actually guided me through the whole process, from gathering information and ideas, to drawing up and checking my personal statement. I just have not looked back since starting, and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone wanting more out of life. (Jun 15)
From the first contact to the completion of the course, I cannot praise enough the help and guidance I have received - Beverley McQuillan
I left school and went straight into work in a Medical Centre, which is the work I still do now! It was always my ambition to become a Nurse, however I did not leave school with all of the qualifications needed to go to university. I gained lots of experience and was working full time. I came across DistanceLearningCentre.com when I was looking for distance learning courses in higher education, so I was able to continue working and study alongside this. From the first contact to the completion of the course, I cannot praise enough the help and guidance I have received. The admin staff and the tutors are fabulous!
Whilst it hasn't been an easy time with the death of a parent and an illness, I managed to complete the diploma in Nursing within 8 months. It was a lot of hard work and at times, I thought it was all too much, but I am glad I stuck with it and got there in the end.
I was offered interviews at university, however due to illness I had to withdraw my application. I am hoping to re-apply this September for 2016. To all thinking of doing one of the Diplomas, I say go for it! Best decision I ever made. Thank you SO much all at DLC :-) (Jun 15)
The quality of the course materials was superb and the support from my tutors was truly excellent - Will Beauchamp
For 10 years I worked in the insurance industry but was unhappy in my job role, knowing that I would much rather be doing something more exciting and challenging than sitting in an office all day. For a long time I had wanted to study to become a physiotherapist, but hadn't achieved the right A-Levels to gain a place at University. I then heard about DistanceLearningCentre.com and their bespoke 'Access to Physiotherapy' course. With nothing to lose, I signed up in August 2014 and was soon working my way through the Level 3 modules which would put me on the right path.
It was difficult at first to balance the study time with my busy work and social life, but I soon got used to the routine and just 9 months later I had finished the course, having gained distinction grades in all 15 modules! I've since been accepted into University and begin my 3 year Physiotherapy degree this September.
The quality of the course materials from DistanceLearningCentre.com was superb and the support I received from my tutors was truly excellent; it really made a difference. I can now look forward to taking the first step on my new career path, and owe much of this to DistanceLearningCentre.com. What at first seemed like an unachievable dream is now becoming a reality ? the career I've always wanted is waiting for me! (Jun 15)
I found myself really getting into each subject, enjoying researching and expanding my knowledge - Kym Evans
I am so glad that I decided to study with DistanceLearningCentre.com. Their payment schedule was great and meant I could carry on working in the NHS whilst studying. I decided to do an access to nursing course to prepare me for future study at degree level. The course was well structured and allowed me to choose certain units which I was interested in.
All of my tutors were extremely helpful and easy to contact. They supported me when needed by email or phone and gave me a good boost when I needed it. I ensured that I stayed in contact with them on a weekly basis, which also ensured that I studied on a weekly basis. The units provided relevant background knowledge and suggested websites for further research. The individual TAQ's were varied in format consisting of; short essays, tables, graphs, fact sheets and power point presentations. Each TAQ varied in length and I found myself really getting into each subject, enjoying researching and expanding my knowledge base.
I now feel so much more confident about attending university in September 2015. It has also given me a boost in my personal life. I feel very proud of what I have managed to achieve and am surprised at how much I enjoyed it, I didn't want the course to finish! I feel a bit lost now but it has made me sure that studying at university is the right next step in my career! Thanks to all the staff at the DistanceLearningCentre.com my dream career is now in sight! (Jun 15)
