The tutors' support with my UCAS application was invaluable - Kate Lunn

In Mid-May 2014, I decided to change careers and work towards becoming a nurse, which I'd wanted to do for some years. Through research, it was clear that I had to complete some study before submitting a university application. The obvious choice, for me, was an Access Course in Nursing via distance learning as I wanted to fit the study around current commitments. I applied to DistanceLearningCentre.com and I wasn't disappointed. The course structure, choice of subjects, ease of application and communication was great but it wasn't easy.

The course is well structured with realistic deadlines for modules with supportive tutors who are great and getting the best out of you and your modules. The tutors' support with my UCAS application was invaluable. However, it takes a lot of self-motivation and you have to structure in study time to complete the course on time. During my 10 months studying, I worked full time, changed jobs twice, renovated a house 150 miles away and had a husband in hospital 3 times - including 2 operations. Sometimes, I did have to choose between fun and study - but I don't regret doing the study as I've come out with 12 distinctions and 3 merits at the end of the course, which is far greater than I needed. I'm now looking forward to studying the Adult Nursing Degree at De Montfort University in September. (Jun 15)

I discovered DistanceLearningCentre.com through my employer. I have been working as a health care assistant for over 2 years, after dropping out of sixth form college. I have always wanted a career in nursing but at the time I wanted to go straight into work and gaining experience. This Access to HE course was the perfect opportunity for me to study whilst working full time. It has given me the qualifications I need to go to university and pursue my dream of becoming a qualified Nurse.

I am very grateful to DistanceLearningCentre.com and the tutors, they have been very kind and supportive. They reply quickly and give useful feedback and help whenever needed. Through doing the course, I have developed a better knowledge on relevant subjects and have improved my writing skills which will be needed in the future. I have had an offer at the university I wish to go to and look forward to starting there in September. (Jun 15)

Offered me a way to work towards my goal of going to university ... and I could stay in Spain - Hazel Wood

I left school after GCSEs as I did not feel staying on to study A-levels was the right option for me at the time. After various jobs I found one as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in a hospital. It was here I discovered my passion for healthcare and I reached the conclusion that I want a career in which I could help other people. Nursing stood out to me as a job that would provide me with the most fulfilment. However due to my lack of A-levels I was unable to pursue this ambition.

One year later I moved to Spain with my partner and baby, always with my ambition to study nursing at the back of my mind. After searching online I came across DistanceLearningCentre.com, which offered me a way to work towards my goal of going to university but using distance learning so that I could stay in Spain. From the first Skype call both of my tutors were friendly, helpful and overall flexible, which was important to me working full time and having a young child.

Initially I was worried that I would struggle as I hadn't studied academically for eight years, but with encouragement and support from my tutors and the excellent online learning resources provided by DistanceLearningCentre.com I was able to develop my time management skills and have gained the confidence to know that by working in an efficient and focused way I can achieve my targets. Thanks to the Access to Higher Education Diploma I studied with DistanceLearningCentre.com I have applied to study paediatric nursing and am hoping to start in September this year. (Jun 15)

You do need to be self-motivated and resourceful but the tutors are there to guide and encourage you - Paula Gorman

Transitioning from a long career in financial services to fulfilling my dream of studying at University and moving into a Social Care career couldn't have been smoother thanks to DistanceLearningCentre.com. Studying the required Access to Higher Education Diploma (Nursing, Midwifery and Health Professions) full time was not an option so DistanceLearningCentre.com gave me the flexibility to continue working, full time, whilst completeing the course.

It was a really tough twelve months, commuting, working and looking after a family but when you are committed and you have a deadline (June moderation for a September 2015 University entry), it is amazing what you can accomplish. I found the course content really interesting and discovered a new love of human biology. You do need to be self-motivated and resourceful but the DistanceLearningCentre.com tutors are there to guide and encourage you along the way. I managed to pass all of the level 3 credits at distinction so I feel more confident and prepared for study at degree level now.

I've been offered a place at my chosen University, Coventry, to study Occupational Therapy ... I still can't quite believe it! (Jun 15)

Their assessments challenged me to evaluate, think and write at near-university level - Elisa Long

I have recently finished my access course in Law at DistanceLearningCentre.com just in time for the June moderation. Studying with them not only taught me the necessary skills for higher education and beyond − ranging from critical and evaluative thinking to academic developments in writing, it also became a lifeline in terms of obtaining educational qualifications for university since it allowed me to dedicate my time to studying whilst also doing other projects, especially for someone like me who splits their time between the UK and overseas and was homeschooled.

Being a DistanceLearningCentre.com student was amazing since it has helped and offered me support in a way that I would not have got otherwise. First and foremost, the tutor support was excellent, offering advice whenever there was a query to be answered, providing feedback that was constructive, inquiring on my path to university from time to time, and encouraging me to keep up the good work even if some of it had to be referred. Secondly, the course content was easy to understand whilst also resourceful, plus their assessments challenged me to evaluate, think and write at near-university level whilst at the same time encouraging development of academic skills. Finally, the course schedules and the moderation motivated me to not only be dedicated fully to the course, but also to ensure that my work was up to a good, if not high, standard and quality.

Overall, my experience at DistanceLearningCentre.com may have been challenging at times (in terms of studying), but eventually it was a rewarding and fun one. Thanks them, as well as my supportive tutor, I have managed to secure a place on a distance learning Law degree at the University of Northumbria in September 2015, which I am looking forward to starting. It has also opened up new windows of opportunity, both of which I would not have been able to achieve were it not for them.

Thank you DistanceLearningCentre.com and my amazing tutor for helping me achieve my goals and dreams; you were all helpful and supportive! (Jun 15)
