Have made the end goal of becoming an inspirational teacher possible - Nigel Bostock

Whilst having one of those defining "That's it, I've had enough" moments after spending the best part of 15 years in the military, I started exploring the different routes into teaching, a direct result of finding different ways to inspire my own children to enjoy learning. With no further or higher education qualifications or recent educational experiences behind me, I came across DistanceLearningCentre.com and quickly started a Level 3 Access to High Education Diploma in Primary Teaching with Science; but not before completing Maths, English and Biology GCSE Equivalents.

I was required to undertake a placement at my local primary school, helping to achieve and develop practical skills, which confirmed my decision to move towards a rewarding career change.

Straight from the off, the course was intense, whilst juggling the deployable demands of a military career as well as a wife and two children aged 3 and 7, I set myself some hard targets, smashing out an assignment every two weeks. Don`t get me wrong, this is achievable, but you need to be disciplined, strong willed and dedicated, even when frustratingly sat in the middle of some random exercise with no internet connection or phone signal for days and weeks on end.

May I be given the opportunity to say a BIG thank you to all the DistanceLearningCentre.com staff, especially my very patient tutors who have made my next step studying at university with the end goal of becoming an inspirational teacher possible.

I thought that being Dutch and lacking native English writing skills would prevent me from achieving distinctions. Fortunately, I was wrong - Marike Schepers

After years of contemplating whether or not to pursue a career in Midwifery I started to look into the options of how I could meet the entry requirements. When I came across DistanceLearningCentre.com I knew this was it. The flexibility of the program enabled me to combine work, kids and my study. This way I didn't have to make any sacrifice before actually securing a place at University.

Nevertheless I was quite concerned about taking the access course, as I had not studied in over ten years. Moreover, I thought that being Dutch and lacking native English writing skills would prevent me from achieving the very much-needed distinctions.

Fortunately, I was wrong, and with the support of my tutors next to the well-developed course structure, my essay writing skills got a huge boost. Not only did I manage to finish the Progression Award in Science plus the full access course within the year, I also managed to receive the distinctions I needed. These achievements helped me in securing a place for Midwifery at my preferred London University. Finally my time has come in pursuing my dream career. I can not thank my tutors and DistanceLearningCentre.com enough. Bring on September! (Jun 15)

Starting with DistanceLearningCentre.com after being out of the educational system for 35 years was daunting, but all my assigned tutors were brilliant, if I had any problems there were readily available to help and put me on the right track, they must have the patience of saints.

Although at times it seemed it would be easier to throw in the towel and quit, after having come so far this was my last chance to gain the qualifications that would enable me to attend university to study adult nursing. (Jun 15)

It was always a dream to go to university, although I genuinely thought it was an unrealistic one - Danielle Gray

It was a really massive decision for me to embark on an Access to HE course, I really didn't think I would be able to do it. I work two administration jobs in the NHS, I have two children who have their own commitments and I don't have any friends or family who live close by for support. I got married at 16 and had my children young and it was always a dream to go to university, although I genuinely thought it was an unrealistic one.

I stumbled by accident across DistanceLearningCentre.com when I was trying to find some local Access Courses that I could do in an evening, the only one I found was on days that I worked and about a 30 minute drive from where I work to the college. Quitting my jobs wasn't really an option either as we have a mortgage and other financial commitments. I bit the bullet after a difficult few months and just thought 'It's now or never'! Starting my Access to Social Work course is one of the best things I ever did. I loved the course content, although the Psychology, mainly the research, is quite hard going, it's not a walk in the park. The UCAS support I got from DistanceLearningCentre.com was absolutely invaluable too, I feel like I got as much support as I would of done had I been attending a full time college.

My tutor was really helpful and supportive, happy to answer my questions, some of which were ridiculous but it does take a while to get to grips with distance learning. She really pushed me to get better and write better and I am starting my degree in Social Work at Sunderland University in September and I really can't wait! (Jun 15)

I really wanted to enhance my qualifications in order to attend university to become a Paramedic and DistanceLearningCentre.com was the perfect option for me. The structure of the Access Diploma meant that I could manage my own time while studying and the tutors were on-hand to answer any questions and support me through the process.

I achieved merits and distinctions throughout and the expectations gave me an insight as to what university has in store. I am now a Student Paramedic and the knowledge I have gained from the Access course has been invaluable to me throughout my training. Thank you to all at DistanceLearningCentre.com. (Jun 15)
