I had been a teacher for 16 years but knew I couldn't see myself doing it for a further twenty so I had been contemplating a change of career for a while. A couple of health emergencies saw me ready to commit to making the big jump.

During the first national lockdown in 2020, and whilst furloughed from work, I had the opportunity to reflect on a few things. Since leaving school halfway through my A levels 13 years ago, and without the grades I needed, I had been going from job to job unsatisfied and not living up to my full potential.
After researching what I need to do to get into university to study Paramedic science, I came across the DistanceLearningCentre.com after a quick search on Google. I have always had nursing at the back of my mind since I was really young. I began to work as a nursing assistant in the Gibraltar Heath Authority about a year and a half ago. Experiencing what it was like to be around patients and to feel the hospital atmosphere made me want to further my career to become a Registered Nurse. My mother has been a staff nurse for over 30 years which has also encouraged me to become a professional nurse.

After many years of working for the Health Service as a secretary, I finally took the first step in October 2019 to pursue a career as a Radiographer.
