There are lots of you asking about grading and asking about the depth you need to go into to get the grades you want./need
The system actually works like this.
You have to pass all the pass criteria to be eligible for grading. You have all been given the pass criteria on every assessment so make sure that you cover everything in it. If you can not find where you have done it, or it does not really match what we are marking for then neither will we, then you will be asked to do this again If you submit work that has not passed all the pass criteria you will be asked to resubmit. You can resubmit only once. At this point you will not be penalised and will be eligible for grading.
If you have to resubmit more than once then you can only get a pass.
If you hand in badly written work, work that is copied, poor diagrams, work that barely covers the pass criterion but just does. It is unlikely that you will get a Merit or Distinction.
Each assessment at level 3 has with it the grading criterion we are going to use. Every one of them includes grading criterion 7 quality, so the work has got to be written correctly and referenced correctly, not plagiarised etc or you will not ever get this grade.
Read the grading criterion and think to your self have I done this? If you have completed real research i.e. not gone to wikipedia, actually read a book or even a few, read the materials, referenced properly, answered the question and even spoken to your tutor on what you think you should put in the piece of work. Then it is very likely that you will get a Merit or Distinction
Finally, please talk to your tutor I know that I always say this but they are the ones with the degrees and teaching qualifications and are actually very good. Please use them. Also, if in doubt, talk to me as I am the one who goes to all the meetings and we want our students to succeed and do very well. You have in the past
All this is in the hand book so make sure that you know it and read it from cover to cover. In communications and the 'how to guides' it tells you how to write an essay and a practical.
Hope at this helps
All the best
Karen
