am i correct in assuming you only get two attempts at your exams?

Yes you are right, there is the first attempt and then a resubmission. If you fail for a second time then there must be really strong extenuating circumstances to gain a third resubmission. This is because we have to seek permission from the awarding body for another resubmission and for this, there has to be documentable and verifiable evidence. If the awarding body does grant a third resub then the result is capped at a pass.
