comms taq 1 word count

Postby natsmurf » Sun Feb 06, 2011 11:20 pm

Is there a recommended word count for taq 1... the short report? I've done 650 words and a table. What has everyone else done?

i got a distinction for comms, but remember that it's the overall content of the unit that counts - looking back i don't actually think my report was particularly great, but it covered the assessment criteria and showed independent research. I'm pretty sure that the content and understanding you show is more important than the word count in this particular report.

Hope that helps.

The TAQs are part of the assessment - the nice thing is you've now got 3 things finished before you even start... If you need a hand with the report layout refer back to Maths assessment 2 info (shoe sizes) as you'll need to include an index sheet, hypothesis etc. Getting excellent grades in Comms is all about the quality of your work, not necessarily the quantity. The tasks do need to be well laid out, clear, concise, and analytical as much as possible. So rather than just describing, make comments about the pros, cons, implications. Lots of 'therefore', and 'however', not so much 'and this and this and this' and then nothing deeper.

I'm glad I found this thread as I had just written a few paragraphs on the subject, looks like I'll need to start again! That's not a big problem though.

I'm a bit stuck on the hypothesis though, if I were to compare two uni's, could I say that the hi was 'Southampton uni is the one for me' and the ho was 'Southampton is not the one for me' (not in those words obviously!)

Or am I missing the point? :?

Hypothesis - Southampton is the best university for me because it has all the facilities that I need from an Institution
Nul Hypothesis - Southampton is not the best university for me because it does not have all the facilities that I need from an Institution

Thanks Rhia!

I thought I'd got it sussed, but a part of me thought I was just missing the point, as usual!

Thanks!
