Ascentis Assessments and materials are changing

Postby Karen Hayday » Tue Sep 29, 2015 5:09 pm

Hi all,

Just to let you know that all Ascentis assessments will be changing over the next few weeks, to fit in with changes Ascentis has made to the subject specifications and word counts Some materials will also be changing.

So far I have changed the subject sets for Psychology, Biology/ Human Phys and Social Issues and maths level 2. If you are on the old Ascentis assessment and you lose your copy then do contact your tutor who will be able to e-mail you the assessment and any associated topics. I will keep you all informed as the changes are made by posting on the DLC news and via face book twitter and of course on here. Your tutors will also keep you informed.

The major change to every assessment has been that word counts have been increased by Ascentis but there is no longer a 10% leeway. So a 3 credit units are now 1000-1500 words and a six credit unit is 2000-2500 words. How the word count works in fully explained on the assessment sheet.

So keep your self up to date by following us on twitter, face book, the DLC news or of course logging on to this thread.

Best wishes for your studies

I really would not worry, we understand that the word count is changing for everything and so as long as you do not go over 1500 for three credits and 2500 for 6 you will be fine.

Education will be up next Monday, then it will be the final assessments of Sport and English Language and Literature.

All assessments will have then been changed to the new word count.

Hello!

Just a couple of queries?
I was in the middle of an assessment when this change was made, do i go by what i started on or should i go from the new criteria?
Are those word counts the total word count allowed for the assessment, or is that with leeway given? I find it a bit absurd that they would expect an exact word count? Please say it isn't so? :violin:

I can't answer your question entirely as I don't know what the rule is if you had already started your assessment, but i've just completed Introduction to Developmental Psychology, and it was sent back to me unmarked because I was 50 words over the 1500 limit for the entire assessment- so it's very strict! I had to take 50 words out and then resubmit it.

The rules are if you are on an assessment with the plus 10% then you continue to use that assessment but if you are on an assessment with a more generous word and no plus 10% then you will need to stick to that word count.

Hope that this helps

No we are not that strict :) :) it is a range, so for 3 credits it is 1000-1500

Hi Karen,

I'm confused by the new word count. You state above that the new word count for a six credit unit is 2000-2500 words. I have just completed my current six credit assessment under the new rules. The word count on each part is :-
TAQ1 part 1 300 words
TAQ1 part 2 100 words
TAQ1 part 3 100 words
TAQ2 part 1 400 words
TAQ2 part 2 200 words
TAQ3 part 1 100 words
TAQ3 part 2 200 words
TAQ3 part 3 500 words
This all adds up to only 1900 words.
I have managed to stick to the word count give or take five words each way.
You speak as though the word count only matters over the assessment as a whole and not per each TAQ. Can you please confirm where the word count comes in to action, is it per each part of a TAQ or the assessment as a whole. The only reference to word count other than the totals on my assessment is that we are not allowed to exceed the word count.

Is this an examined unit? If it is the rest of the words go into the exam, if not I have made a mistake somewhere so let me know the unit name and I will have a look.

Thought that may be the case, and so you have actually answered your own question. Good luck with the exam

Thanks for this Karen - Discovered I genuinely needed this PDF reader, to be able to access the PDF materials attached with assessments I find that neither are good for editing ILPs, so converted ILPs to .doc files, to edit that way in Pages
