Introduction to Developmental Psychology

Postby BelieveandAchieve » Mon Aug 15, 2016 12:22 pm

Hi All,

I am currently working through the TAQs for the Introduction to Developmental Psychology unit, but am a little bit stuck.

I have completed some draft answers for TAQ 1 and am now looking at starting TAQ 2, but after looking more closely at the information provided in the TAQs, I am wondering if I am approaching this incorrectly :?

Am I right in thinking that the Cognitive theory that I need to outline in TAQ 1 excludes Bowlby's theory of attachment, but refers to cognitive theories like Piaget and Kohlberg and the Evolutionary theory section refers to Bowlby's? If I am, why does Bowlby's theory come under the Cognitive section in the table displayed in TAQ 2? i.e. shouldn't Piaget's theory come under this?

Sorry if my questions appear to be daft, I just want to make sure that I complete the unit in the best way possible :)

Any answers on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Hi
I can help!!
Your thinking is spot on. Bowlby is not a cognitive theory, however there are aspects of Bowlby's ideas that address the thought processes and changes to these as a result of the attachment process and it is these that you need to focus on in TAQ2. So out of Bowlby's theory (which is evolutionary) you need to tease out the parts that relate to cognition (thought processes) in relation to attachment.
Hope this helps - page 9 of the topic 2 learning materials will really help too :D

Hi
We can help on the forum but we do need a bit more information on what you are struggling with. If its a general 'I don't know where to start' a tutorial with your tutor would be better for advice and guidance

It was initially taq 2, but it's just the whole assignment. Do I HAVE to do psychology or can I switch to another subject? This is my last topic before completion and its making me want to quit.

The wording of the materials and questions. It's making my head buzz. Biology was a doddle compared to this and its only the introduction

Hi

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems. Have you had a tutorial with your tutor to discuss the issues you're having?

I will try and help you out if I can.

TAQ 2 ... You need to identify the study (Author and Year) and then evaluate the study (consider positives and negatives) try and include two points for this ..

I hope this helps!

Thank you. No, I had my initial introduction and then my tutor took a weeks leave. I've not contacted her again yet as shes not due back until Monday I believe.

I took health professions option 2. I've seen there is a new course for midwifery, but the distribution of points is very different. I've already completed Biology, which I loved! Alan is amazing. It's not a difficulty with my psychology tutor as she seems lovely and very helpful I just feel like this topic is not for me. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent reading and re-reading the questions and i just cant make it happen.

I'm on taq 3, I've discussed Bowlby and am about to add supporting information, other studies that back this up etc.. but essentially I'm really not interested in the subject matter and I really wanted to be. I thought I'd love psychology. I've done so well with biology, I don't want to throw all of that away by failing in psychology.
