Access to Higher Education Diploma in Teaching (Biological Science) Pathway
Course Modules
To start this Diploma you MUST have a GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in Maths, English and a Science.
Part 1 - Core
- English Level 3 (6 credits)
- IT Level 2 (Compulsory or GCSE/equivalent) (3 credits)
- Communications Level 3 (Compulsory) (6 credits)
- Research Methods Level 3 (Compulsory) (6 credits)
- Human Biological Science 1 Level 3 (Compulsory) (15 credits)
Part 2 - Teaching
You must take at least 15 credits
- Educational Theory Level 3 (6 credits)
- Learning Difficulties Level 3 (6 credits)
- Practical Teaching Skills Level 3 (6 credits)
Part 3 - Biology Modules In your part 3 and 4 choices you must take at least one of the modules in bold to complete your Research module assessment
- Human Biological Science 2 Level 3 (9 credits)-recommended
- Biological Health & Disease Level 3 (6 credits)-recommended
Part 4 - Other Modules
- Psychopathology Level 3 (6 credits)
- Child Development & Welfare Level 3 (6 credits)
- Social Conflict Level 3 (6 credits)
- Social Interaction Level 3 (6 credits)
Access Pathways
There is only one pathway for Teaching. It is the choice of Modules which results in your specialism.
Part 1 - Core Modules must be taken as part of a full Access course.
Part 2 - Teaching, you must take a minimum of 15 Credits.
Parts 3 & 4, once you have made up the required Credits from Parts 1 & 2 you make up the rest of the Credits from these Modules.
If you complete a work placement you must have a CRB check before going into schools. This must be undertaken by school where you undertake the placement and may take up to 6 weeks so please talk to them about this at the earliest opportunity.

You must follow the rules of combination for the Modules listed. Your tutor will check your choices at enrolment to ensure the combination you have selected is a valid one. We encourage you to discuss possible changes to your original choices with your tutor as you progress through the course.
